Black Friday Prizes

I’ve always wondered about “the type” of person who would rush out before dawn to stand in line for hours or jostle other customers for door buster deals. I’m an online kind of shopper and never saw the need. Then I heard about the 20% off on your total purchase at Bed, Bath and Beyond in-store only of course during Black Friday Madness.

Insanity struck hard! I actually considered dragging my 5 month old infant out at 0600 to stand in line (my hubby is deployed so no choice) and jostle other customers (strapping son in Baby Bjorn naturally).  As I write this, I’m still thinking about it, but the love for my son and need to maintain his schedule is stronger than the my desire to save a few bucks.

Dang it, I’d save almost $100 now that I add up everything I want. Hmmm…

Here are three fast Black Friday facts:

1. The day's name originated in Philadelphia. The Police Department coined the phrase to describe the massive traffic jams and over-crowded sidewalks that occurred on the day after Thanksgiving.

2. Around 1975, the term “Black Friday” was used to refer to the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or are "in the black", changing the connotation to something positive.

3. Retailers traditionally opened at 6:00 a.m., but in the late 2000's the time steadily moved earlier until 2011 when several big stores opened at midnight for the first time. This year, Walmart, Sears, Toys R Us and a few other stores announced they would open at 8:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

When will the madness end?

  5. *shudder* Working in malls during the season when I was younger scarred me for life. I saw all the bad things - theft, car break-ins, rude people. Give me online shopping any day!

  9. I'm not a Black Friday shopper. I don't believe that shopping should ever be a full contact sport. I spend the day baking cookies with my kiddos instead.

  15. Black Friday has been my thing since a few years ago. Me and my nephew would get up early and brave the crowds splitting up and grabbing what we wanted, lots of fun memories :) This year I didn't get to do it cause of money problems but I'm looking forward to next year.

  27. This is the BEST way to spend Black Friday. Sitting at home, hopping with old friends and making new ones. I can't handle the crowds anymore so I only do Black Friday shopping online if I do any. I tend to pick up gifts throughout the year so come November I'm finished. That way I can spread out the purchasing and not spend a fortune at the time of the year when my job is at its slowest and my paycheck is at its lowest. Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win. <^_^>

  44. I have to admit that I did go out shopping at 4:30 am today. By that time the door buster crowd had come and gone and the stores were like a Tuesday in February. I was home by 6 am and was able to get some nice deals without waiting on long lines.

  46. I love Black Friday shopping, but this year I waited until the store was almost empty and I still got all the specials on my list. I live in a small town and even though there are a couple hundred people in Wal-Mart, most are friendly and they even say excuse me when they push you to get to what they want. I would never shop in the places they show in the news, way too scary., but in my town, I try to go every year.

  50. Now I really want to know if you ended up going to BB&B! I imagine it was a madhouse either way. I remember how hard it was to take my little one out and that was over 19 years ago! I never attempted the Black Friday thing until last year and it definitely was not my cup of tea. I appreciate that your husband is out fighting for our freedom but I am sure it is difficult for you having a baby at home. :(

Thanks so much for being a part of the hop and for the giveaway!

    Happy Holidays,
